Following the very sudden and sad death of the Late Ian Meier, while in post, efforts to recruit a Treasurer were seriously hampered when the pandemic brought a virtually complete ban on social activity and face to face communication. Having “held the fort” for some months, our Chairman was able, in the Summer to approach David Williams, a retired Chartered Accountant. David is known to many as the ex-Treasurer of the late-lamented Romney Marsh Research Trust, where he did sterling work in running the finances, and then seeing to an orderly winding-up of that Trust and the permanent establishment of a record of its work.
The Council of the Trust had been unable to meet since January, but took the opportunity of a brief meeting immediately following the Annual General Meeting in St George’s Ivychurch. David Williams was co-opted to the Council and elected as Treasurer to the Trust, and we are delighted that his skill and experience will now be used in the service of supporting our churches.
